Police officers also frequently use speed measuring devices to pull over speeding drivers. While these devices are accurate at determining speed, they may not always be accurate. If the device isn’t calibrated regularly, it can skew the results.

You Had an Emergency

Sometimes people may drive above the speed limit because they have a legitimate emergency. For instance, someone may be chasing you and trying to harm you. Or perhaps you had to take someone to the emergency room. If you drove above the speed limit due to an emergency, you must provide proof of that emergency. If you, for instance, had to take someone to the hospital, you can submit medical records.

Speed Limit Signs Weren’t Clear

In some situations, motorists don’t realize that they’re speeding because there are no clear speed limits. For example, if the speed limit sign was hidden by a tree, you may be able to use that as your defense and get your ticket dismissed.

It Was the Wrong Vehicle

If you are traveling in heavy traffic, the radar can mistakenly ping your car for speeding. In reality, it was a nearby vehicle that was speeding. If this is the case, you may be able to argue to the judge that the radar was not attributed to the proper vehicle.
